title: For Haiti
As most of us well know by now, the poverty and politically stricken nation of Haiti was hit by a 7.0 Earthquate on Tuesday (January 12th) that killed possible up to 100 thousand people and affected somewhere around 3 million.
The easiest thing you can do is make dua (pray) for the people affected. The next best thing is to give sadaqa (charity) and then to raise awareness among others of what happened and how they can help.
I’ve compiled a list of reliable charity efforts going on for the people of Haiti:
- The Red Cross is making it as easy as a text message to donate $10 towards an initial pledge of $1 million in relief. Simply text ‘Haiti’ to 90999. Click the link to find out about other ways to donate through the Red Cross. The Red Cross also has a way to find out about your relatives in Haiti.
- Haitian Musician Wyclef Jean’s Haiti Charity Yéle has an earthquake fund you can donate to. You can also donate $5 to Yele Haiti Chairty simply by texting “Yele” to 501501.
- The Charity Islamic Relief USA is raising funds for Haiti.
- Doctors without Borders needs donations for their Haiti Earthquate Response.
- Donate to UNICEF to help provide care for the children who have been affected by this disaster. Children are the most vulnerable, many will have been injured, orphaned or separated from parents.
- Donate to help the Search Dog Foundation who send specially trained search dogs to disaster areas and have teams in Haiti now.
- Donate to help Habitat for Humanity help Haiti rebuild.
- A facebook page has been set up to provide information about the Haiti Earthquake and related Aid Efforts. You can find several more trusted charities to donate to that are providing aid to Haiti on the Haitian Earthquare Relief facebook page.
