title: Why?

I’ve been busy and sick for a few weeks now and haven’t been up to doing Today with UmmHend, I’ve missed writing each night before bed. I wanted to come back with this message of Why I put so much into Muslimas Oasis.

I’m sure some have wondered, I often wonder myself. Why do I do this?

It can be weeks between getting a comment, months between getting an author other than myself to write. I get behind on updates and sometimes forget things altogether. I’ve spent countless hours designing, writing, editing, searching for pictures, updating the social networks, emailing, writing interview questions, brainstorming, coding… all while working from home and taking care of my family. Why?

Because I have Hope

I read the news, I get completely defeated and disheartened at least once a week. I lose faith in humanity, I doubt the good that is left in the world. I wonder what good my writing these things brings, I feel like simply a drop in the ocean, and not an extraordinary one, I lose my purpose. But only for a brief moment…

Then I notice something, whether it’s a spectacular sunset, a beautiful snowstorm, deer frolicking in the field across the street, a stranger smiling as if they know me, a moment of confidence in my mothering where I think maybe I’m doing something right, a sparkle in my childs eye that tells me they are still pure and still destined for a greater good. When I see the beauty around us in nature and in the simple every-days I remember the good that we have in us.

Good survives and it flourishes all around us. In the small things and even in great glorious things, if we look for them and don’t let the worlds wounds blind us to the worlds beauty.

One Heart

And if I affect, change or ease even a single heart, even if it is my own. If something that I write has even a tiny bit of good in it, even if it is only for myself. Then I do not write in vain, I have a purpose, it is worth it. I may be a single drop in a vast ocean but I have the potential and the ability to saturate even a small part of a single heart. And that is enough.

And if by the grace of Allah I am a means for something more, for the guidance or betterment of anyone, then that is far more than I expect.

So I’ll keep writing inshaAllah and pray that there is some good in it and some worth for you who are reader.
